Canes vs. Preds 12/2 Recap: Cam Ward Doin’ Work

by Derek Roessler •  Dec 3, 2014  •  0 comments

Facing off against one of the top teams in the league, the Canes would need a great effort Tuesday night to wash the taste of Saturday's game out of everyone's mouth. With the Predators coming to town, it meant the return of Laviolette and Cullen to the scene of their greatest glory. It also meant that the large and talented Shea Weber, the larger and also talented Pekka Rinne, rookie sensation Filip Forsberg, and everyone's favorite d-bag Mike Ribeiro would be in the house. So gather 'round, and bring 9,160 of your friends to the PNC Arena, it's Canes hockey time! Not entirely sure if Nestrasil is welcoming a celebration or asking if someone wants to go.

Canes vs. Avs 11/22 Recap: Constantly Finding New Ways To Lose

by Derek Roessler •  Nov 23, 2014  •  0 comments

Now 20 games into the season, this Carolina Hurricanes team is the most wonderfully frustrating edition of the Canes I can remember. Start the season on a horrible losing streak and visions of McEichel appear. Then they go and kick ass for 6 straight games and it's early enough to wonder if that's sustainable? Or, they could bottle up all the good and the bad of the previous 19 games, cook it down into one 60 minute contest and leave Canes fans with their mouths agape, breathing like Tyler Hansbrough.#MurderousIntentEricStaal

Canes vs. Stars 11/18 Recap: GoalAPalooza

by Derek Roessler •  Nov 19, 2014  •  0 comments

Last night's game in Dallas ran the gamut of emotions and scenarios that hockey has to offer: there was early frustration, elation that bordered on befuddlement in the middle, with urgency and relief at the end. Simply a fun 60 minutes of hockey from a group of guys who played with a lot of visible G.A.S. (Give A Shit) last night. After scoring a goal, Jiri Tlusty delivered a reasonably priced quote to repair a roof leak.

Canes vs. Sharks 11/16 Recap: #HotGoalie

by Derek Roessler •  Nov 17, 2014  •  0 comments

Coming home to play San Jose off the heels of a pretty good effort (or so I heard) in Boston, the Canes were looking to turn around their recent 2 game losing streak. With the Sharks playing a goalie making his NHL debut, one would think the home team stands a pretty good chance to win. However, that would be forgetting our proud franchise history of turning backup goalies into Dominik Hasek for a day.

Canes vs. Jets 11/13 Recap: Damn You, Mo!

by Derek Roessler •  Nov 14, 2014  •  0 comments

Well that was certainly different. The Carolina Hurricanes we saw last night looked a lot more like the October version of this team than the one that had gone 5-0-1 to start November. With a few exceptions, there was a lack of hustle, imposing will on the opponents, and winning individual battles. And of all nights to pull this stunt, it HAD to come against everyone's favorite guy to be fired twice by the Carolina Hurricanes, Paul Maurice. So many great crowd reactions.

Canes vs. Flames 11/10 Recap

Canes fans, I gotta level with you to begin with: game after game, this team just keeps getting points and there's only so many ways I can think of to say that this is AWESOME! After the terrible start to the season, YOUR Carolina Hurricanes have peeled off 4 consecutive home wins, including last night's 4-1 victory over the Calgary Flames.A rare shot of Staal not getting kicked out of the faceoff circle.

Canes vs. Jackets 11/7 Recap: The Streak Continues

by Derek Roessler •  Nov 8, 2014  •  0 comments

These two clubs met in Columbus on Tuesday night, and with some chippy play rearing its head in the third period, I was really looking forward to the rematch in Raleigh.  The Blue Jackets' defense would look a little different as James Wisniewski returned from a broken finger, and fan favorite Jack Johnson received a 3 game suspension for his hit on Jiri Tlusty.  Let's go to the videotape! There's so much to love in this photo: a big hit, a small human wearing headphones, and I have no idea what that face is in the background.

Canes vs. Blue Jackets 11/4 Recap: Winning Streak Intact

by Derek Roessler •  Nov 5, 2014  •  0 comments

Coming off of an undefeated weekend, the Carolina Hurricanes rolled into Columbus trying to extend their winning streak to three games. Facing a Blue Jackets squad that was about as injured as the South Park Pee Wee team, the odds were in favor of another Canes victory. We've certainly seen the effect injuries to key players can have on a team, but what's going on in Columbus is just absurd. Look at the list of who's NOT healthy for them right now.  Horton might not play again, Dubinsky is still out for another couple weeks, BOBROVSKY could be back anytime, who knows when Anisimov or Murray will return, I mean... DAMN!Why this is one of the 21 photos that NHL.com chose for the game, I'll never know.

November 1st & 2nd Recap: WE WON 2 GAMES!!

by Derek Roessler •  Nov 3, 2014  •  0 comments

What the hell happened this weekend at the PNC Arena? After going the entire month of October without winning a game, the Canes beat the Coyotes and the Kings in a stretch of about 25 hours. The team looked sharp, quick, determined, and, as odd as this feels to write, pretty damn good!#HarrisonFace

Canes vs. Canucks 10/28 Recap: Late Night Quiet Storm

by Derek Roessler •  Oct 29, 2014  •  0 comments

With the Canes heading in to Vancouver sporting an 0-5-2 record and the game starting after home games typically end, I wouldn't blame anyone for missing out on this one. However, there's always a chance the good guys could win one, and with Eric Staal back in the lineup, why not last night, right? Well, for those masochists..err...fans out there who stayed up to watch, the game was all too familiar to the previous games across western Canada.Outstanding defensive positioning!
