by Derek Roessler •  Sep 16, 2013  •  0 comments

The Florida Panthers played their began their preseason today against the Nashville Predators. Either they forgot to get the word out, or they announced a contest to see who was the most apathetic fan in town. Stick tap to all 38(?) fans(??) there for…

Here Comes the Money

Today the Penguins announced they signed Evgeni "Geno" Malkin to an 8 year, $76 million deal (with a $10 million signing bonus AND no-move clause) that begins in 2014, which will give him the second highest cap hit in the league, behind Ovechkin. Pittsburgh also has the player with the 3rd highest cap hit in Crosby. Hell, just Malkin and Crosby's cap hits will take up 28.3% of the cap, assuming it stays at 64.3 million in 2014.   More absurdity after the jump.A young Ray Shero in training.

Surely some of you have seen the eulogy posts on Puck Daddy. Written by bloggers of the teams that eliminated them, these eulogies are filled with insults, observations about the team and residents of the local area, and a general sense of distaste for those unfortunate souls who are populating their local golf courses.  Great as these are, the Kings and Sharks bloggers at Battle of Cali are bringing their A-games to 2nd round smack talk.

Conference Semi-Final Predictions

The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat. The first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs is now behind us, leaving memories of some great goals, big/questionable hits, and hilarious collapses.  Thankfully the Canucks were swept, giving way to what should be a comical offseason as they try to work within the salary cap (that they're already at with only 17 players under contract). The Islanders, Leafs, Ducks, and Canadiens should all be congratulated for beating expectations, but ultimately they can go ahead and make tee times, or join their countrymen at the World Championships, whichever is more important. Zach Parise and Ryan Suter pulled a Lebron and Bosh and didn't live up to pre-season hype despite massive matching contracts. St. Louis lost a HELL of a series to the Kings, and most comically, Troy Brouwer didn't show up in the Caps series loss to the Rangers. The lesson, as always, is Troy Brouwer is a tool.   Round 2 predictions after the jump!
