We Support NC Beer

by Derek Roessler •  Jan 30, 2014  •  0 comments

After many months and years of dropping subtle hints, we're just going to come right out and say it: we love beer.  Whew, that feels a LOT better! The wide range of craft beers is truly incredible, and it's made even more enjoyable that so much fantastic craft beer is being brewed right here in North Carolina. Currently, there are  more than 80 breweries in the state, with more opening up seemingly every month. In addition to providing people with delicious brews, the local craft beer movement is helping local economies and communities across the Old North State.

Pumpkin Beer Bash

Though some have been on sale since July (yes, JULY!), now that it's fall, it's time to crack open some pumpkin beers. All of us here at 328 enjoy seasonal beers, but the influx of pumpkin brews are some of the most highly anticipated of the year.  We've tried plenty of the 2013 offerings including Harvest Time, Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin, Uinta Punk'n, and have enjoyed nearly all that we've come across. However, there are 2 that truly stand out and they're both from the dessert beer geniuses at Southern Tier.

Beer Review: Hell or High Watermelon

by Derek Roessler •  May 20, 2013  •  0 comments

credit: drinkblogrepeat.com While us here at 328 love almost all beer (NOT looking at you, Heineken), we often get caught up in pursuing the hoppiest IPA or rarest bourbon barrel aged stout. However, when warm weather rolls around, there’s not a damn thing…

So Much Local Beer, So Little Time

by Derek Roessler •  Apr 22, 2013  •  0 comments

We got some good feedback on our Spring Beer article, including requests to talk about some breweries in the area. The local beer scene has blown up since Pop the Cap passed in 2005, and with over a dozen local breweries, the Triangle is becoming a great place for beer. As there's seemingly a new brewery opening up every few months or so, we may not have all of them, so please feel free to chime in and let us know what we've missed. After the jump, a glance at some great local beers!

Spring Beer Favorites

Another season is upon us, and it's another reason to get excited. No, not pollen season, but Spring beer season.  While there are some seasonal offerings that are damn near impossible to get (looking at you: Founders KBS), the ones we're listing here are widely available.   Fortunately Raleigh is now littered with great places to get great beer: Tasty Beverage, Bottle Revolution, BottleMixx, Ridgewood Wine & Beer, and so on.  Now that the weather is getting warmer, the beers are getting lighter (though if you love stouts all year, more power to you).  Here's a few of our favorite Springtime beers (after the jump):

Mother Earth Silent Night

ERMAGERD! This is the first time I’ve had this hard to get seasonal release from the good people of Mother Earth Brewing in Kinston, NC. I purchased the big bottle of this imperial stout aged in oak bourbon barrels about a month ago and figured…

O Christmas Beer, O Christmas Beer…

by Derek Roessler •  Nov 14, 2012  •  0 comments

One of my favorite things about a new season is new seasonal beers. For as much as I’m fond of pumpkin beers, the sheer variety of Christmas and Winter brews makes them my favorite batch of seasonal brews. The other day, I was fortunate enough…

What a freaking response to the launch of our little corner of the web. A day like this calls for a drink worthy of celebration. Time to reach for the good stuff. The Jameson Gold Reserve doesn’t get touched often, but when it does, it…

**Update: This stuff is on sale around the Triangle for as low as $4.99/4pk.  BUY IT** A perennial favorite of mine, Founders Breakfast Stout is one of the better (IMO) coffee beers on the market, despite being from Michigan. It’s brewed with chocolate and 2…

Southern Tier Creme Brulee Stout

Oh. My. God.  What an amazing dessert beer. Sadly, it has now come and gone for this season (unless you’ve found it somewhere, in which case, TELL ME NOW). I only found it in 22oz bottles, which would be more than I’d care to consume…
